Grand Jury Indicts South Carolina Man For Edison Gas Station Robbery, Murder

​Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet announced that a man from South Carolina was indicted today for the armed robbery and murder which took place at the Speedway Gas Station in Edison on December 20, 2018.

Police say Mr. Marcus A. Wright, 23, of Beaufort, South Carolina, was indicted for first degree murder, first degree felony murder, first degree armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, all second-degree crimes.

The indictment was handed up following a presentation to a Middlesex County Grand Jury by Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Scott Lamountain and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Vanessa Craveiro.

An investigation by the Edison Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that on December 20, 2018, Wright was involved in the robbery and fatal shooting of 38-year-old victim, John Bertram of the Fords section of Woodbridge Township.

Edison Township Police responded to the Speedway Gas Station, at 789 Amboy Avenue at approximately 4:15 a.m. Upon arrival, police found the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wright is facing life without parole on the first-degree murder count. He continues to be held in South Carolina awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
