Flying Bullets Nearly Strike NJ Transit Bus in Newark's West Ward

Newark

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect who fired multiple shots on a street in Newark's upper West Ward on Thursday night.

The Halloween evening shooting happened in the vicinity of Norman Road and Mount Vernon Place at approximately 8:10 p.m.

Police say the gunman arrived in the area and began to repeatedly fire shots in the direction of several males who were standing on the corner.

According to police, the #1 bus was near the intersection when the suspect blasted off about a half dozen rounds, but none of the bullets struck the bus.

Authorities say parents and children out trick-or-treating did scramble from the gunfire, but there were no injuries reported.

Police taped off the area for about an hour to gather evidence and shell casings. The suspect remains at-large.
