Newark Men Convicted of New Brunswick Murder

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that two Newark men were found guilty today in the murder of a 31-year old New Brunswick man who was found dead inside his car from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officials say Michael Martin aka “Maniac”, 28, and Rayshawn Riddick, 33, both from Newark were found guilty of first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree in the death of 31-year-old victim, Hakim Williams, of New Brunswick.

Martin was found not guilty of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose according to officials.

During a trial that began on June 11, 2019 Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Bina Desai and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Anny Lopez presented evidence and testimony showing that the two men conspired to kill Mr. Williams.

Officials say on August 18, 2017, Martin and Riddick lured the victim to New Brunswick in order to commit the murder.

New Brunswick Police arrived to find the victim, Hakim Williams, deceased inside his car on Fulton Street. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

Martin and Riddick are facing prison terms of 30 years to life for the murder of Hakeem Williams when they are sentenced in New Brunswick by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves.

These terms are subject to the No Early Release Act. In addition, both Martin and Riddick are subject to an extended prison term due to their prior convictions.

Martin and Riddick were charged after an investigation by Detective Kenneth Abode of the New Brunswick Police Department and Sergeant Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
