Wrong Man ID’d in Newark Prostitution Sting

Newark

NEWARK – A Newark Police clerical error led to a photograph of man not arrested in a recent prostitution sting to be included in a photo array of suspects that was released to the press on Saturday, May 24.

A photograph of Mohammad Ibrahim of Bloomfield was erroneously put in the gallery.

The arrested man was Mohamad Ibrahim of Elizabeth, who Image is posted.

The Newark Police ask all media that published the photo array to please correct the information.

Mohamad Ibrahim of Elizabeth was arrested on Friday, May 24 after soliciting an undercover officer during a police operation to rid a residential area of prostitutes and their clients.

The names and photographs of 10 men arrested were sent out by Newark police the following day, with the wrong photograph, but with the correct spelling and hometown of the arrested Mohamad Ibrahim of Elizabeth.

Besides having the same name, the arrested man and the misidentified man are the same height and weight, and approximately the same age.

“We made a mistake, and we are rectifying it,” said Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose. “We believe in transparency and apologize to Mohammad Ibrahim of Bloomfield for the mix-up.”
