Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department announce that two men are now in custody in the fatal assault which caused the death of a man in the late evening hours of March 30th.
Officials say Joshua Robinson, 28, of New Brunswick was captured early this morning at a hotel in South Plainfield by members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Brunswick Police Department, and the South Plainfield Police Department.
According to authorities, James Lyles, 32, also of New Brunswick was previously arrested on March 31, 2019.
Police charged Robinson and Lyles with one count first degree murder and one count of aggravated assault in the second degree for causing the death of Robert Reilly, 61, also from New Brunswick.
They are being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center pending a Detention Hearing.
The charges were filed following an investigation by Detective Ray Quick of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Erik Larsen of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to authorities, on March 30th at approximately 10:15 pm, on the corner of George and Paterson Streets, a verbal argument between the two suspects and Reilly turned into a physical altercation. Robinson and Lyles assaulted the victim causing serious injury which resulted in his death.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Robinson and Lyles are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
