Jersey City fire officials are looking into a fire that destroyed a house in the city Monday night.
According to officials, heavy fire ripped through the rear of a three-story wood framed house located at 22 Rutgers Avenue sending firefighters to the scene where they observed flames beginning to extend to neighboring homes at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Fire officials struck a third alarm for manpower as they continued to block flames from spreading to the house next door.
The fire was placed under control shortly before 11 p.m. -with no injuries reported- after firefighters checked the homes for trapped occupants.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
