Meet Elizabeth’s First Hispanic Female Sergeant

The City of Elizabeth swore in its first female police sergeant.

Officials say Sergeant Marcela Arriola was born and raised in downtown Elizabeth. She attended Elizabeth High School and graduated in 2001. Marcela continued her education at UCC and received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 2004.

According to authorities, Sergeant Marcela Arriola joined the Elizabeth Police Department in 2005. In 2018, Marcela took the Sergeant’s exam and achieved the highest score of all eligible Elizabeth candidates.

Congratulations, Marcela, on becoming the Elizabeth Police Department's first Hispanic female sergeant.
