West Orange Firefighters Battle Early Morning House Fire

West Orange

West Orange firefighters with the assistance of neighboring towns battled an early morning fire that erupted inside a house in the city Saturday morning.

According to preliminary reports, crews were called to the 80's block of Riggs Place after receiving 911 calls of thick smoke coming from a home at that location.

Arriving firefighters observed flames tearing through the roof of a two and a half story house at approximately 3:40 a.m. fire officials said.

Crews were able to make entry into the burning home where they conducted a search for trapped and injured occupants, but thankfully no injuries were reported.

Officials say about ten residents evacuated the structure and are displaced because the severely damaged home is inhabitable.

The fire was brought under control just before 5 a.m. with the cause under investigation.
