Winter Juvenile Curfew Initiative Announced for Newark

Newark

Newark Police Division Announces Winter 2019 Juvenile Curfew Initiative Curfew Enforced for Children under 18 years of age from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Officials say the initiative was established to safeguard juveniles by ensuring that they remain under the supervision of a parent or guardian at night during the winter months. While parents have the primary responsibility to provide for the safety and welfare of their children, they are advised that police will enforce the Curfew Ordinance upon unaccompanied minors under age 18 who are more than 100 yards from their residence from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

During last year’s Summer Initiative, which began on July 6th, a total of 860 juveniles were transported safely home during the curfew hours and seven summonses were issued to respective guardians.

Authorities urge parents to abide by this ordinance and asks that anyone with information about any suspicious or criminal activity to call the Department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) or 1-877-NWK-GUNS (1-877-695-4867).  All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
