Authorities in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Adam Baines, 29, of Newark for allegedly attempting to disarm a police officer today.
According to a statement released by Newark Police officials, at approximately 5:37 p.m., 5th Precinct officers responded to a Hedden Terrace residence on a domestic violence call.
Police say a woman at the residence reported an altercation with Baines.
When officers attempted to question Baines then place him in custody, police say he resisted officers’ efforts to handcuff him and tried to remove the service weapon from the holster of one of the responding officers.
Police officials say Baines was unsuccessful and immediately arrested.
Authorities charged Baines with Attempt to Disarm a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest and Domestic Violence Simple Assault.
Police say one of the officers was injured during this incident and was transported to University Hospital for treatment of pain.
“I commend these officers for the great restraint they used and the necessary force they applied to place this suspect under arrest,” Director Ambrose said
