Woman Delivers Baby Inside Abandoned Newark House

A woman delivered a healthy baby girl inside an abandoned house in Newark this morning.

According to preliminary reports, shortly after 8:30 am, Newark Police were notified by a concerned citizen that they saw a woman go inside an abandoned home with a weapon in the 100 Block of Camden Street.

Police swiftly responded to the call and took up positions in both rear and front of 117 Camden Street according to reports.

After making entry, police found a woman on the upper level of the structure who was not in possession of a weapon.

Police notified EMS when they noticed the woman next to a newborn girl that she reportedly had given birth to inside the home a day prior.

Rutgers Police, who were on the scene, quickly wrapped the baby in blankets and awaited the arrival of medical personnel.

According to reports, EMS arrived, did an observation and determined the baby to be very healthy.

The mom and child were both rushed to the hospital for further tests and observation.

It is not clear why the woman was inside the house.

The incident remains under investigation.
