There is a homicide investigation underway for the victim of a shooting that occurred early this morning in Newark's North Ward.
According to authorities, police rushed to the vicinity of 259 Broadway after receiving reports of an injured person at approximately 2 a.m.
Units arriving at the scene found an unconscious and unresponsive male victim suffering severe injuries after gunfire reportedly struck him at that location.
Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene according to authorities.
Detectives from The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene to take over the investigation.
The fatal shooting marks the 4th person to die by gunfire in than a 36-hour time span.
There were no arrests reported in any of the fatal shootings at this time.
