Toms River Police Arrest Barricaded in Man

South Toms River

Toms River Police arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a house this afternoon in the city.

According to police, shortly after 4 pm, South Toms River Police responded to 29 Hummel Drive to serve an arrest warrant on Mr. Henry Parker, 37, who resides at the above address.

Police say Parker was wanted on warrants out of three jurisdictions for both criminal and traffic charges.

According to authorities, when officers arrived, they observed Parker outside the residence and approached.

Parker immediately fled into the home causing the officers to lose sight as they entered and heard sounds coming from an adjacent room causing concerns that Parker was possibly securing a weapon.

Authorities say officers retreated from the home and set up a perimeter covering all exits to prevent his escape.

The Ocean County Regional SWAT Team was called to assist where they secured the area surrounding the home to assure the safety of the neighboring residents before attempting contact with Parker.

SWAT negotiators outside the residence quickly began communicating with Parker.

Police say after over three hours of negotiations, Parker surrendered and was taken without incident at 7:50 pm.

Parker was forwarded to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and subsequently lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a first appearance according to police.

Police say, at this time Parker is preliminarily charged with Obstructing, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and those charges contained within the outstanding warrants.

A search warrant will also be secured to determine if there are any weapons within the residence.
