Newark

Authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office took a Newark Police Officer into custody and charged him with a sexual assault of a woman in 2016.

According to a statement released by authorities, Officer Miguel Rosa, 43, of Linden has been charged with two counts of sexual contact (4th-degree offenses) and four counts of official misconduct (2nd-degree offenses).

Authorities say on June 28, 2016, while on duty, in uniform, and in a marked Newark Police Department vehicle, Rosa stopped a vehicle driven by a young woman at Broad and Lafayette streets.

Rosa did not give the woman a motor vehicle summons but instead order her to follow him where he led her to a second, location in Newark according to the statement.

Authorities say at this location, Rosa allegedly kissed and groped the woman's intimate parts.
