There is a homicide investigation underway in a neighborhood in Newark's West Ward at this time.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out on South 15th Street between 14th Avenue and 15th Avenue at around 5 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene to find a male victim laying on the ground unconscious, and unresponsive suffering gunshots wound at that location.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office have been notified as Newark Police detectives have a crime scene established and an investigation underway.
The motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
