Friends and family have identified the driver of a car that burst into flames on an Elizabeth street after it colliding with a Shop Rite tractor-trailer.
According to preliminary reports, emergency responders rushed to the 500 block of Dowd Avenue near York Street shortly before 2:15 a.m. for a report of a crash.
Fire and rescue crews arrived at the scene to find a car and a Shoprite truck fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the car - identified as Mr. Tom Squire - was airlifted to Saint Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston suffering severe burns.
According to police officials, doctors pronounced Mr. Squire dead at 8:18 a.m.
The official cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Elizabeth Police Department.
