Man Accused of Firing Shots into Air in Franklin Twp.

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson and Franklin Township Police Chief Lawrence W. Roberts announced the arrest of Rashan M. McMillan, 44, of Hamilton Street, located in the Somerset section of Franklin Township.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on October 4, 2017, at 11:50 a.m. Franklin Township Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired in the area of Hamilton Street near the Douglas Gardens Apartments.

The caller stated that a black male, wearing a red or orange t-shirt, gray pants and a red hat was standing near a blue vehicle firing a handgun in the air. Franklin Township Police Sgt. Greg Price and Officer Andre Tirado immediately responded and discovered Rashan McMillan in the area matching the description given by the caller.

Officers approached McMillan and were able to take him into custody without incident. A fully loaded revolver with several spent shell casings was recovered from defendant McMillan’s waistband.

Police charged McMillian with 2nd degree, unlawful possession of a handgun, 4th degree, possession of a defaced firearm and 2nd degree, certain persons not to possess firearms.

After processing, McMillian was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.

These charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
