Jersey City Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Woman During Home Invasion

Detectives from the Special Victims Unit of the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor announced the arrest of Marquis Gilchrist, 31, of Jersey City, for the August 13th, aggravated sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman inside her McGinley Square apartment on Fairmount Avenue.

Authorities have charged Gilchrist with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of Burglary, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Knife), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife) and making Terroristic Threats.

Gilchrist made his first appearance on August 26th, where the Prosecutor’s Office moved for pretrial detention of the defendant.

A detention hearing has been scheduled for August 30th.

According to authorities, on August 13th, Jersey City Police Officers and Detectives from the Prosecutor’s SVU responded to a report of a home invasion and sexual assault on Fairmount Avenue in Jersey City.

Upon arrival, police met with the 22-year-old victim who reported to them that she had been sexually assaulted at knifepoint by an unknown male who broke into her apartment.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
