Charges Against Man Accused of Striking Bayonne Officer Dropped

Authorities today confirmed that all charges against a man  charged with striking a Bayonne police officer with his vehicle have been dropped.

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced that criminal charges against Michael Mulcahy, 46, of Bayonne, have been dropped, along all motor vehicle citations he was issued in connection with the May 7 incident.

According to authorities, Bayonne Police Detective Roman, was at a 34th Street bakery sometime around 6 p.m. when he saw reportedly Mulcahy taking pictures of his vehicle. After Popowski left the bakery he identified himself as an officer and called for a police car claiming he was being harassed.

Mulcahy got into his car and allegedly struck Popowski's leg after putting his car in reverse.

The Prosecutor's Office did not provide any additional information as to why the charges were dismisssd.
