UPDATE: Minor Injuries Reported in NJ Transit Bus Crash in Newark

Authorities in Newark are reporting that a New Jersey Transit bus struck a canopied bus stop at the intersection of Broad and Market streets causing it to collapse today.

Police said at approximately 9:32 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Broad and Market streets on reports that a pedestrian had been struck and trapped under a bus.

The bus was traveling eastbound on Market Street, approaching Broad Street, when the driver reports that mechanical problems caused him to lose control and to hit the bus stop.

Five women at the bus stop, along with the driver and two male passengers were transported to University Hospital for treatment of minor, mostly pain-related, injuries.

Two additional passengers will seek medical attention on their own authorities said.

No life-threatening injuries were reported.

The intersection was closed briefly to remove the bus and canopy structure.
