Police Arrest Newark Man for DWI After Striking a Police Vehicle

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of **Rashad C. Mathis, Jr., 32,** of Newark, for Driving While Intoxicated after he struck a police vehicle today (Sunday).

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 2.a.m., police officers patrolling the area of Clinton Avenue and Irvine Turner Boulevard were stopped at a red light when their vehicle was rear-ended by a gray 2001 Dodge Wagon driven by Rashad C. Mathis, Jr.

Police determined that Mathis was drunk and he was immediately arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated Director Ambrose said.

This charge is merely an accusation.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
