Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in Newark's West Ward early this morning.
According to a spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office, the victim was found shot in the 50's block of Norwood Street at around 7 a.m.
Police responded to the Vailsburg community after receiving reports of shots fired when the found the unconscious and unresponsive male at that location.
Detectives focused their attention on a house on Norwood Street, but it is not immediately clear if the victim was killed inside.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
There have been no arrests reported.
