Man Kills Mother, Grandmother in Jersey City

Authorities have announced the arrest of a 36-year-old man who is accused of murdering his mother and grandmother inside their Jersey City apartment last night.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, at approximately 8:25 p.m., police responded to 305 Randolph Avenue after a report of a woman screaming for help was received.

Upon arrival, officers gained entry into the apartment through the fire escape after no one came to the door.

Once inside, police found Rebecca Hodges, 56, suffering multiple stab wound to her torso and Dorothy Bradshaw, 76, was found with multiple stab wounds to her face and body. Both women were subsequently transported to Jersey City Medical Center where they were pronounced dead at approximately 9:10 a.m.

According to police, Kevin Hodges, 36, who was found reportedly covered in blood, was arrested approximately one block from the scene.

Hodges has been charged with with two counts of Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3; two counts of Possession of Three Sharp-Edged-Weapons for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4d; and, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Three Sharp-Edged-Weapons in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5d, after a sword, meat cleaver and kitchen knife were found covered in blood inside the home.

Kevin Hodges has been identified as the son of Rebecca Hodges. His initial bail was set at $4,000,000 cash only.

No other suspects are being sought at this time however the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
