There is an active investigation underway to determine the cause of a crash that killed a woman early this morning in Newark.
Emergency responders rushed to the area of Broadway and Crittenden Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash with trapped and injured occupants at that location.
Crews arrived to the scene to find a seriously injured woman reportedly pinned underneath a vehicle.
Desperate attempts to free the woman were unsuccessful as the woman was pronounced dead at the scene according to reports.
It is not immediately clear if there were any other victims transported to the hospital from the crash scene.
Investigators from The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were on the scene for the investigation.
The identity of the woman has not been released by authorities at this time.
