Authorities are investigating the death of a man found in a house in Newark's South Ward.
Newark police officers responded to a medical aid call at a residence in the 100 block of Hobson Street.
Authorities said arriving units discovered an unresponsive male at this location.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
This individual has been identified as Jerome Myers, age 30, of Newark.
Authorities said it appears that Myers died as a result of an altercation with another individual, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit, who added that the exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
The incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
No arrests have been made at this time and both investigations are active and ongoing, according to Fennelly.
