Life Threatening Injuries for Newark Crash Victim

An early afternoon crash in Newark's South Ward sent two people to the hospital, one of them suffering serious injuries.

Emergency responders rushed to the area of Lyons Avenue and Faybyan Place shortly before 3 p.m. on reports of a crash with trapped occupants.

Arriving crews located a single car had lost control and crashed into a utility pole with the driver and passenger still trapped inside.

Firefighters managed to easily pull the driver from the vehicle before handing him over to EMS for the transport to the hospital.

The passenger required more attention from emergency crews after the collision left the man seriously injured and unconscious. He was rushed to University Hospital where his injuries were reported as serious.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
