Frantic calls came into 911 call takers by motorist driving on Bloomfield Avenue after they witnessed a crash with occupants trapped inside a vehicle in the city's North Ward late last night.
The crashed happened at around 11 p.m. just outside of the Newark Light Rail Station in the area of Highland Avenue and Park Avenue when a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Park Avenue reportedly lost control and crashed into several vehicles causing the SUV to overturn witnesses told RLS Metro Breaking News.
Newark firefighters, ESU, University Hospital Rescue, and Newark Police rushed to the scene where they found the overturned vehicle with two people reportedly trapped and suffering injuries.
Within minutes, crews were able to extricate the injured victims then hand them over to EMS for the transport to University Hospital where their injuries were not immediately reported as life threatening.
It is not immediately clear if any others suffered injuries.
Newark Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
