After a very familiar officer to students of Linden School No. 5 was injured in this week's shootout with a suspect that allegedly hid at a bar in Linden after planting bombs at a train station in Elizabeth and injuring over two dozen in NYC, students decided to write 'get well' cards for the injured officers. Patrolman Angel Padilla, plays a very active role within the School No. 5. community, school officials said. Officer Padilla has been involved in many activities that School No. 5 has during the day, including volunteering his time for after school events. Officer Padilla, on Monday, responded to a report of a man sleeping in front of a tavern on Elizabeth Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Monday, which turned out to be the suspect wanted in connection with bombings in New York and New Jersey. The encounter quickly took a turn injuring Padilla in the torso, while also injuring Investigator Pete Hammer, and Investigator Mark Kahana, who will also receive cards.
