This is a statement issued by the African American Statewide committee indicating this years's parade being cancelled.

"For the past 21 years, our Herculean efforts have enabled us to present a full Calendar of Events every year.  This year, we will host our 4 day Heritage Festival from May 23rd through Memorial Day, May 26 at Newark’s Weequahic Park. , Sadly, due to the lack of available resources and stark economic realities we must postpone hosting the 48th Edition of the African American Heritage Statewide Parade".

"Please join us at Heritage Festival 2014. We have Vendors, a Health Pavilion, College Fair, Horse & Pony Rides, Carnival and non-stop entertainment. On Friday night we will feature a concert by a phenomenal Band V Music, Saturday we will Focus on Our Youth and close out with Classic Soul and R&B, Sunday, May 25th at noon we will feature a Battle of the Bands Jamboree followed by our “In the Spirit” inspirational and Gospel Concert and Monday we will have a cultural explosion “From Our Diaspora” with a special tribute to the late great Amiri Baraka".
