The event, according to information released by Zufall Health, brought together state leaders, health professionals, and local families to spotlight the essential role of community health centers across New Jersey.

This year’s NHCW theme, America’s Health Centers: Celebrating 60 Years of Improving Our Nation’s Health, marks six decades since the creation of health centers under President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty.

Today, these centers serve more than 600,000 New Jersey residents but face growing challenges, including federal funding uncertainties and potential policy changes like the recently passed HR-1, which could impact Medicaid access for many patients.

Attendees had the opportunity to tour the future site of Zufall’s first standalone school-based health center, which is currently undergoing final furnishing and licensing steps.

Funded through the organization’s 2024 annual fundraiser, the center is a testament to how community support directly fuels expanded care options.

According to Zufall Health, the event also featured a back-to-school festival attended by over 600 local residents, including families from the Franklin Township School District.

Children received school supplies while enjoying food, games, and health resources.

New Jersey Senate Minority Leader Anthony M. Bucco praised the effort, calling community health centers a model for improving lives and strengthening neighborhoods.

“The more we invest in expanding them, the healthier and more resilient our state will be,” he said.

Zufall’s event was supported by corporate sponsors such as Henry Schein and ProDirect Dental Laboratory, with additional backing from Aetna, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and others.
