On January 8, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Gamma Omicron Zeta Chapter held a reception for the unveiling of their exhibit
"100 years of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood," celebrating 100 Years of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. at the Newark Public Library.
According to officials at the sorority, the event was coordinated by executive board members chapter president Salaine Atkins-Little and Trisha Jones and attended by members of the community, library officials, sorority members, and their youth groups. Alongside Councilwoman LaMonica R. McIver, who brought greetings.
The new exhibition features vital information and historical commemorative pieces. It will run through April and is open to the public, so make sure to check it out.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. was founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Gamma Omicron Zeta Chapter was chartered on March 2, 1953, and has been serving Essex County and surrounding areas ever since the beginning. These women have been working hard to empower, unify, and uplift the community. Through continuous selfless acts of service. #TeamGOZ sponsors four auxiliary youth groups:
Amicae: Friends of Zeta.
Pearlettes: Girls under nine years old who are mentored by ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated to become outstanding leaders in their community.
Amicettes: Girls nine to thirteen years of age who are willing to strive toward the high ideals of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and who demonstrate the potential for leadership in service to the community.
Archonettes: High school-aged young ladies who demonstrate an interest in the goals and ideals of scholarship, sisterly love, and community service.
While also advising five undergraduate chapters. Beta Nu at FDU Teaneck, Xi Iota at Montclair State, Psi Lambda at Rutgers Newark & NJIT, Psi Pi at Seton Hall, and Kappa Phi at Bloomfield College.
This gracious group of finer women is always working and striving to make positive changes. Recently the tenacious group reopened the "Stork's Nest" last year and got a resolution from the city of East Orange. "Stork's Nest" which is located within the town of East Orange.
The organization offers expectant moms prenatal information, support, and free necessities such as pampers, bottles, wipes, etc.
Since 1953, these finer women have made it their diligent duty to serve and give back to the community. They are paving the way for humanity while remaining humble through every step of the journey.
