A tragic late-night crash in Carteret has claimed the life of Woodbridge Police Officer Michael Tenpenny, who passed away following a devastating collision on Tuesday night, according to information released by local authorities and statements from the Woodbridge Police Department.

Around 10:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the 90 block of Bristol Court after reports of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a tanker-style tractor-trailer.
When first responders arrived, they found the pickup truck heavily damaged with the driver — now identified as Officer Tenpenny — trapped inside.
Carteret rescue teams worked urgently to free him from the wreckage.
CPR was administered at the scene before he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors continued life-saving efforts.
Despite their attempts, Officer Tenpenny was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Earlier today, the Woodbridge Police Department confirmed the heartbreaking loss:
“It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of Woodbridge Police Officer Michael Tenpenny who tragically passed away last night following a devastating motor vehicle crash.
