Wood-Ridge Man Accused of Beating 14-Month-Old Child

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of 41-year-old Karim R. Ali, of Wood-Ridge, on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Tuesday, June 28, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was informed that a 14-month-old male child was admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center with blunt force trauma to his abdominal area.

An investigation was initiated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Special Victims Unit and the Wood-Ridge Police Department which led to the arrest of Ali.

He was charged with one (1) count of aggravated assault and one (1) count of endangering the welfare of a child.

The Honorable Margaret M. Foti, J.S.C., of Bergen County Superior Court set Ali's bail at $200,000.00 with no 10 percent option.

He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and must surrender his passport as conditions of bail.

Ali was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance on July 1st at Central Judicial Processing Court.
