Woman Tied Up, Assaulted in North Bergen Home Invasion Robbery

North Bergen

Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that happened in the city late last night.

Officers were called to an apartment on 2100 block of Grand Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. for report of a burglary in process.

Upon arrival, officers met with a 25-year-old woman who told police that two men forced their way into her apartment, one of armed with a silver handgun. One of the men then forced a gas-soaked sock in her mouth, pushed her into the bathroom and ransacked her apartment last night.

North Bergen Police Capt. Patrick Irwin said that at this stage of the investigation, it appears that the victim may have been targeted and was not a random act.

The suspects reportedly took off with the victim's purse, which had her identification and about $40 in cash, police said.

The victim claimed did not know the intruders but could not provide specific descriptions of the men nor the direction in which they fled.
