Woman Severely Injured After Crashing Car Into Liquor Store in Newark

EMS rushed a severely injured woman to University Hospital after the car she operated crashed into a liquor store in Newark's West Ward this evening.

The woman’s car came within several feet from striking the Home Liquors store’s main gas line when she lost control of the vehicle on Springfield Avenue and South 16th Street then slammed into the building shortly before 7:20 p.m.

Fast responding Newark firefighters arrived and found the woman trapped inside the vehicle according to police.

Officials say rescue crews extricated her from the vehicle suffering a broken leg among other injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
