Woman Robbed, Beaten in Newark

Newark

EMS transported a female victim of a violent robbery that left her injured in the city's Central Ward to the hospital yesterday.

Police responded to the area of South 9th Street and Central Avenue Wednesday afternoon on reports of an armed robbery in progress.

Arriving units located the injured woman who reported to them that a black male suspect approached her near the intersection and demanded personal possessions at gunpoint.

The woman told police that while she was attempting to hand over items, the suspect began to violently assault her with the weapon. Police units searched the area around an apartment complex where they believed that the suspect's gun may have discharged during the incident.

The woman's injuries were not reported to be life threatening.

This is the second armed robbery incident in the immediate area with the other robbery taking place at a nearby bus stop of a charter school teacher earlier in the week.

There have been no arrests reported.
