Police in Newark are on the search for a robbery suspect that violently assaulted a woman in the city's North Ward this morning.
Units responded to the area of North 5th Street at Berkeley Ave. shortly before 10:45 a.m. on reports of an armed robbery in progress at that location.
Cops arrived to the scene where they found a female victim suffering a non-life threatening head injury after being attacked by a male suspect who robbed the victim of personal possesions before going on the attack according to the victim.
The suspect is described as a black male who was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie when he fled the scene in a silver compact vehicle according to reports.
The vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on North 5th Street.
