At approximately 1:56 p.m. on July 16, Newark Police responded to multiple calls reporting a possible suicide attempt.

When officers arrived, they discovered a woman who had climbed over a fence and was standing at the edge of the overpass.

Members of the Newark Police Emergency Services Unit, along with Newark Firefighters and New Jersey State Police, quickly moved in to close the westbound lanes of Route 78 and began de-escalation efforts.

Thanks to their coordinated response, the woman was safely brought back from the ledge and transported to University Hospital for evaluation and further assistance.

No additional details about the woman or her condition were released.
