An overnight armed robbery that resulted in a violent assault of a woman in Newark has several police agencies investigating and on the search for a suspect.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of Springfield Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard to investigate reports of an armed robbery in progress that occurred at around 1:50 a.m.
Newark, Rutgers and the Essex County Sheriff Office police officers arrived at the scene and found the victims who reported being robbed at gunpoint by the males who arrived in the area in a vehicle then demanded personal possessions.
The unidentified males began to attack a female with the gun causing non-life threatening injuries according to reports.
EMS transported to the victim to University Hospital for treatment and the suspects remain at-large.
