Woman Killed by NJ Transit Train in Wayne

New Jersey Transit police are investigating a deadly incident involving a Montclair-Boonton Line train that struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday afternoon in Wayne.

According to NJ Transit officials, the accident occurred at approximately 2:57 p.m. when Train 1001, which had departed Hoboken at 1:58 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Dover by 3:30 p.m., fatally struck an adult female trespasser on the tracks east of the Wayne Route 23 Transit Center.

Authorities confirmed that none of the approximately 27 passengers and crew members on board were injured.

As a result of the incident, Montclair-Boonton Line service has been suspended in both directions between Montclair State University and Denville while the investigation is underway.

The New Jersey Transit Police Department is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal strike.
