The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has launched an active investigation into the murder of a woman found in Newark's South Ward Wednesday evening.
Shortly before 9:40 p.m., police were dispatched to Madison Avenue and South 12th Street to investigate reports of an injured person.
Upon arrival, officials say a severely injured woman was found there.
The woman suffered blunt force trauma, but the State Regional Medical Examier's Office will determine the official cause of her death.
The investigation is ongoing, no arrests have been reported, and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office will lead the investigation.
