Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a pedestrian strike that left a person dead in Lakewood Monday night.
Emergency responders and rescue crews were dispatched to the intersection of 4th Street and Madison Avenue to investigate reports of a woman struck by a car around 9:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found the severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive victim lying in the roadway.
EMS immediately administered CPR to the victim before rushing the lady to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where doctors pronounced her dead a short time later.
Witnesses said the woman was standing in the middle of the street before the car struck her.
Lakewood Police officials will handle the investigation.
There were no other injuries reported.
