Authorities in Newark are investigating an early morning assault that left a woman hospitalized, according to a statement released by the Newark Police Department.
At approximately 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue after receiving a call reporting a sick or injured person.
Upon arrival, police found a woman who had sustained a head injury during a confrontation with a man known to her.
The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, and an active search is underway.
The injured woman was transported to University Hospital, where she is receiving treatment for a laceration to the head. Authorities report that she is currently in stable condition.
Newark police officials stated that the incident remains under active investigation as they work to locate the individual responsible.
