Woman Gets 15 Years in Prison for Stabbing Boyfriend to Death in Union City

Union City

A 24-year-old Guttenberg woman was sentenced to 15 years in prison admitted stabbing her boyfriend to death inside a Union City apartment.

According to authorities in July 2016, Cateline Hichos, 24, stabbed 22-year-old Kevin Argueta to death inside his family's Union City home. Police said Argueta was found in a pool of blood near the door to his room around 6 p.m. by his brother.

Hichos’ attorney Joel Silberman claims his client went through Argueta's phone while he was asleep and found "graphic" images of the 22-year-old with other women, which ultimately lead to the stabbing. Silberman continued to say that the discovery sparks Hichos‘ memories of her troubled life - including being abused by an uncle and beaten by her ex-husband - which resulted in the stabbing.

Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Najma Rana claims Hichos left home with the knife wrapped in a grocery store circular when she went to a friend's house to change clothes. There Hicho told her friend she was raped.

According to the judge order, Hicho must serve at least 85 percent of her sentence before becoming eligible for release and faces deportation after prison.
