Woman Found Dead in North Arlington Apartment; Person in Custody

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of Eric Pleger, 45, of 28-K Garden Terrace, North Arlington, on charges of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Today at approximately 12:15 p.m., the North Arlington Police Department was contacted by a concerned party at the Riverview Gardens Apartment Complex and asked to check on the welfare of the female tenant at 28-K Garden Terrace.

Officers responded to the residence and encountered Pleger.

A check of the residence was done to ensure the welfare of his wife, Luisa Pleger, 47, and while doing so officers discovered her lifeless body.

Pleger was taken into custody at that time for further investigation.

The residence was secured as a crime scene and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was requested to respond.

The ensuing investigation resulted in the following criminal charges against Pleger: One (1) count of murder, a crime of the first degree and one (1) count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the third degree.

Bail was set by the Honorable Susan J. Steele, P.J.S.C. of Bergen County at $2,000,000.00 no ten (10%) percent option. Pleger was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

The cause of death is pending final determination by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office once an autopsy is completed.
