Woman Fatally Struck by Train in Hackensack

Authorities are investigating a tragic incident in Bergen County after a woman was fatally struck by a train late Wednesday morning.
 

According to NJ Transit officials, the incident occurred at approximately 9:58 a.m. when Pascack Valley Line Train 1651, which had departed Hoboken at 9:34 a.m., struck an adult female near the intersection of Sussex Street and Railroad Avenue, close to the Essex Street Station in Hackensack.

 

The woman, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly trespassing on the tracks when she was hit.

She sustained fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported among the approximately five passengers and crew members aboard the train.

 

As a result of the incident, NJ Transit suspended service in both directions between Wood-Ridge and New Bridge Landing. Substitute bus service is currently being provided to affected riders.

 

The investigation is being led by New Jersey Transit Police, who continue to work to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal strike.
