Woman Beaten, Strong Armed Carjacked in Newark

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect who beat a woman during a carjacking incident at a location in Newark Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, police responded to reports of a carjacking in progress that occurred in the vicinity of 50 Bergen Street where officers arrived and found the injured woman at that location.

The victim reported to police that a tall, thin, black male approached her and punched her in the face, then made off with her silver 2-door Nissan Altima.

Police say the suspect sped from the scene in the vehicle that has a reported Nj license plate number " D36-JZU".

According to police, the suspect is described as having short twists in his hair and wore a blue T-shirt with white stripes.

EMS treated the woman for non-life threatening injuries.
