Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Detectives in Essex County are looking for two suspects wanted for a violent attack on a woman onboard a public bus in Newark Friday.

Shortly before 10 a.m., police responded to reports of an incident on a NJ Transit #1 bus near the intersection of Stuyvesant and 18th avenues in Newark's West Ward.

Assault

Police arrived at the scene and found a 46-year-old woman suffering cuts to her lip, forehead and face. She also had bruises on her torso and legs.

EMS transported the woman to University Hospital in  Newark, where doctors treated serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The woman's family told RLS Media that she suffers from mental health issues but couldn't understand why the male and female attackers brutally beat her while the victim sat on the bus.

Assault

RLS Media obtained a video of the brutal assault.

It showed the suspect engaged in nearly two minutes of punching and kneeing the woman in her face and upper body while she was down on the chair guarding her head against continuous strikes from both assailants.

A second video showed the victim preparing to square off and fight another woman outside the #1 bus. It did not appear that this woman was involved in the attack on the bus.

Assault

The incident is under investigation and no arrests have been reported.

Please contact Newark Police at 973-733-6000 if you know the suspects’ whereabouts.
