Woman Arrested for Throwing Cat from Balcony in Newark

Newark

Police in Newark have arrested Tikeemah J. Lassiter, 19, of Clinton, for an incident of animal cruelty that occurred on Thursday, December 1, 2016.

A concerned citizen alerted Newark Police to a video on social media showing Lassiter throwing a cat from a third-floor balcony in the 300-block of South Orange Avenue.

As part of their investigation, detectives have determined that Lassiter is a suspect in this animal cruelty incident.

Police said Lassiter had been in Newark visiting relatives at the time of the incident.

Newark Police arrested Lassiter Saturday and charged her with Animal Cruelty.

A $10,000.00 warrant had been issued for Lassiter’s arrest by New Jersey Transit Police for an assault.

The cat survived the incident and is currently in the custody of the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The agency is having the animal examined by a veterinarian and will determine appropriate placement for the cat.

This charge is merely an accusation.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
