Woman Arrested for Stabbing, Robbery at Newark Hotel

Police in Newark are announcing the arrest of Ms. Cearita Pendelton, 46, of Newark, for an aggravated assault and robbery that occurred on Monday, September 4th.

According to Newark Public Saftey Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 9 p.m., police responded to the Riviera Hotel, located at 169 Clinton Avenue, to a call of an injured person.

Director Ambrose said police found a 49-year-old man suffering a stab injury upon their arrival.

EMS transported the man to University Hospital for treatment.

An investigation indicated that a female suspect accompanied the man to his hotel room and stole cash from his wallet when a struggle ensued resulting in the woman allegedly stabbing the man Director Ambrose said.

During the investigation, detectives said they observed the suspect,** Ms. Cearita Pendelton**, at the hotel when officers took her into custody.

Authorities charged Ms. Pendelton with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Robbery, and with Contempt of Court on an outstanding warrant.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

These charges are merely accusations lodged against Ms. Cearita Pendelton.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
